SCULPTURE AT BARANGAROO
I enjoy Sculpture by the Sea at Bondi every year, so was excited to check out the exhibit this year at the new Barangaroo reserve.
One of my favourite artworks of recent years is Construction Barangaroo (at the bottom of this post). Wandering through the timber framing reminded me of being a child and exploring the framework of the houses my dad built. This exhibit was almost laid out in the same plan as the last house my dad built for us, complete with soaring double-storey space. It brought back memories long forgotten.
Another installation... an orange shipping container, complete with internal fireplace and view of the harbour, was especially stunning against a moody, dark grey afternoon sky. The Grove exhibit has featured at Sculpture by the Sea, previously. Its quirky pear shape is endearing, and the little hollows make you smile.
Ok, so I am not much of an art critic... but I do know that I appreciate how these artworks invoke a feeling or mood, and take you outside of your own thinking. I will let the pictures do the rest of the talking.
Sculpture at Bararangaroo is now closed, but Sculpture by the Sea (Bondi) runs from 20 October to 6 November 2016.
