STYLING IDEAS FOR A MELBOURNE CUP PARTY
Spring has arrived, which means Melbourne Cup is just around the corner. What better excuse is there to get dressed up, get your friends together and have a Melbourne Cup party! Create a party theme around the celebration of spring with shades of pink, and a touch of greenery. Serve pink champagne, macarons and cake. If pink is a bit too much, a black and white theme is always classic. Layer in metallics, such as gold or silver, for interest.
Regardless of your colour scheme, an easy way to create a party atmosphere is to use multiples of the same thing. Get a large quantity of balloons in a handful of colours. Fill with helium, tie with streamers and let float to the roof to create a balloon ceiling. Alternatively, you can tie balloons across a wire to create a balloon garland.
Multiples of flowers are equally effective. Buy large bundles of the same flowers at your local shops and group together to create a big flower arrangement, or several smaller groupings.
As the race takes place in the middle of the afternoon, you can provide nibbles for your guests. Canapes, bite sized desserts, or maybe you want to go all out and order a cake from your local bakery.
If you don’t have a bar cart, you can use a sideboard to set up a bar cart. Have a bucket of ice on hand, and garnishes sliced so your guests can mix up their own drinks. And most importantly, don’t forget to have the champagne on ice for when your horse wins!
Use the time between now and race day to pick your theme and make a list of what you need for your party. You can slowly purchase your items when you are out and about so that you don’t have to rush around last minute.
