Sweet Childhood Room
Pink and Blue Bedroom
A collaborative effort with the mother of a young girl, resulted in this fun, new, bedroom design. Knowing what she liked, but not knowing where to start, I was contracted to assist in the upgrade of this bedroom from toddler to little girl. We started with a concept and floor plan to keep us on the design and furniture placement. Initially the design was pink, pink, pink, with a touch of grey… but then we added in some blues to tone down the pink. As space is tight in the city these days, a king-single bed ensures a comfortable place to sleep for overnight guests. (A bunk bed in the next room allows for sleep overs with siblings when overnight guests come to town.) Wall dots had been spotted (!) in an Instagram image, and were requested to be be added to the design. Unable to find suitable removable wallpaper, I did get lucky in sourcing removable wall dots through a Canadian Instagram account. (Yes, I am always working when I’m scrolling Instagram!) We started with a couple of sheets, but quickly realised it would take several more sheets, and a few hours of patient work to place the dots… ensuring even placement!
Because we had worked on a concept, therefore having a visual outcome of what the room would look like; this gave the mum confidence to shop for a few items whilst on an overseas trip… giving some special meaning to some of the pieces selected for the room.
Having jigged the room around for the photo shoot, we have realised there is still room for improvement; mainly in storage requirements for a growing girl. Bedrooms ebb and flow with the changing needs of a child, so it is good to be flexible on the design. Expect another photo shoot soon!
