Behind the Scenes: My Design Process

My systems and processes are informed by my years as a draftsman in engineering practices, which taught me the value of precision, planning, and thoughtful problem-solving. This background shapes the way I approach every project, ensuring that each stage is deliberate, considered, and tailored to each client.

Ever wondered what it’s like to work with me? Here’s a step-by-step look at how I bring a design to life.

1. Design Analysis + Scope

It all begins with listening. I take the time to understand your brief, measure the space, and define the project scope clearly. This ensures we are aligned from the very start and that expectations are transparent.

Why it matters: Clear scope and analysis prevent surprises later and make the entire project run smoothly.

2. Design Concept + Research

Next, I develop the design concept. This includes exploring colour palettes, reviewing images and inspiration you love, and conducting research on the site and building itself. At this stage, I create a concept board to communicate the design intent clearly.

Why it matters: A well-defined concept ensures that the project reflects your style, lifestyle, and the context of the space.

3. Planning + Detailing

With the concept in place, I translate ideas into detailed CAD drawings. This stage often involves collaboration with you to refine the design and ensure everything fits both practically and aesthetically.

Why it matters: Precise planning prevents issues on site, allowing the project to be executed efficiently.

4. Colour Application

Colour is key to bringing a space to life. Here, I develop paint specifications and curate a cohesive colour and materials palette that complements the overall design.

Why it matters: Thoughtful colour and material choices set the tone and create harmony throughout the space.

5. Furniture + Materials

I conduct extensive research, pulling from my trusted network of suppliers and saving options that fit the concept. This research is then refined into a detailed specification sheet for your review, alongside a material planning chart.

Why it matters: Selecting the right furniture and materials ensures the space is functional, beautiful, and aligned with your style.

6. Procurement + Delivery

Behind the scenes, I manage the procurement process. This includes organising quotes, tracking invoices, and coordinating deliveries to keep everything on schedule.

Why it matters: Careful management of this stage prevents delays and ensures that all elements arrive on time and as expected.

7. Maintenance + Warranties

Finally, I provide guidance on caring for your new interiors. Each piece of furniture or finish comes with specific maintenance requirements, which I compile into a simple, easy-to-follow document.

Why it matters: Proper maintenance prolongs the life of your investment and keeps your space looking beautiful for years to come.

Bringing It All Together

Working with me means every stage of your project is considered, documented, and tailored to you—from the first ideas to the final details. My approach is informed by my drafting background, combining precision, planning, and problem-solving to deliver interiors that feel effortless and thoughtfully curated.
