Small Bedroom Joinery Ideas: A Custom Storage Solution
Good joinery isn't just about storage. This compact bedroom solution combines wardrobes, luggage storage, a workspace and television into one design, helping the room work harder without feeling crowded.
In smaller rooms, every square metre needs to work harder. Storage, technology, workspaces and everyday items all need a place to live without making the room feel crowded or cluttered.
This custom joinery was designed for a bedroom within a holiday home renovation in Thredbo.
Holiday homes often need to work as hard, or harder, than everyday homes. Guests arrive with luggage, outdoor equipment, clothing and technology, all of which need a place to live without overwhelming the room.
Hidden within this joinery is:
• hanging storage
• luggage storage
• ski and snowboard bag storage
• a desk area
• a television
• a calm and uncluttered bedroom
The challenge was fitting all of these requirements into a relatively compact room while still allowing the space to feel calm and uncluttered.
The original wardrobe provided hanging space, but it didn't address the broader needs of the room or the guests using it.
The joinery along the top of the wardrobe spans the width of the room and is accessed via doors that hinge upwards, allowing for the storage of large ski and snowboard bags. The joinery to the left provides hanging storage with space for luggage below. On the right, additional hanging space accommodates longer items such as coats and dresses.
The central section combines a television with a desk and workspace, creating a practical multi-functional zone without requiring additional furniture within the room.
The finished joinery appears simple, but simplicity is often the result of solving multiple problems behind the scenes. Good joinery isn't just about storage; it's about creating a solution that supports how a room is actually used.
This bedroom formed part of a broader holiday home renovation in Thredbo.
